Media Spot-Lite: Celebrity Round-Up

May 1, 2012

A few months ago, I did a “Celebrity Smorgasbord” post and recently have come across an absurd amount of articles on celebrities and their various weight issues, so I’ve decided to do another round-up. Celebrities: a hot mess, just like us!

Another “Celebrities Without Make-up/Photoshopping is out of control” reel from Yahoo! Shine

When the original unretouched cover photo from Redbook’s July 2007 issue surfaced, the singer said she was disappointed by the altered photo. Redbook stood by the image saying, “the retouching we did on Faith Hill’s photo for the July cover is completely in line with industry standards.” We think she looked pretty darn good in the original image.

Posh Spice: Standing on super high heels For The General Public!

Posh Spice: Size 2 Fashion Designer: Just Like You And Me!

She told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘We always joke that we have this fabulously gorgeous 17-year-old model who is six-foot-whatever and then I say “OK, I’m going to put it on. I stand for the general public here”. It’s how I work. I found it really difficult when I was pregnant and I couldn’t do that. It’s part of the process – I’ll stand here in my knickers and start draping fabric over myself. It was very hard when I didn’t have my body.’

This is beautiful.

Adele: Trying to Lose Weight, Get Healthy, Fit in

She was called ‘too fat’ by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld – and now Adele is shedding the pounds.

The singer and her charity campaigner boyfriend Simon Konecki, 36, have each lost almost a stone in the past month by following a strict vegetarian diet. The couple also go jogging with Adele’s dog Louie every morning.

‘The weight is dropping off them and they plan to keep dieting until the end of April,’ says a friend of the 23-year-old Grammy winner, who lives with Simon in a rented £6million pile in West Sussex.

‘They are inseparable – they are losing weight together, getting fit together and planning a future together. Adele says she’s doing her best work and feels healthier than she has for months.’

But also getting a ton of free Chanel purses out of prior blasphemy!

Besties Forever?

Kate Winslet on Leo DiCaprio Becoming a Fatty

“We do look very different, we’re older. Leo’s 37, I’m 36 – we were 21 and 22 when we made that film. You know, he’s fatter now – I’m thinner. It’s true though!”

Suck it, Idiots!!

Jennifer Lawrence on Criticism For Being “Too Fat” For The Hunger Games

‘This is hilarious. First, people say how so many actresses in Hollywood look anorexic, and now they are criticizing me for looking normal,’” the source recalled. The actress reportedly added that overly thin body images “are too often adopted by young girls and women — thanks to what they are constantly being shown as being attractive.”

Hot mess, hot mess, hot mess! I appreciate Adele trying to get healthy, and Jennifer Lawrence standing up for her bodacious bod, but I’m totally cracking up at Posh and a little disappointed at Winslet’s humor! Also, has I think by now most of us have figured out that every single magazine cover is photoshopped out the wazoo. And of course, almost all of these are about women, right (also, seriously, there are slideshows on FoxNews rating “celebrity” women’s implants?? Disgusting, and of course FoxNews)? Oy.

I try try try to ignore celebrity gossip but it’s just too much fun sometimes! As far as Adele…what happened to her response to that Lagerfeld comment where she defended her weight, saying she loved her body, loved to eat and didn’t have any need to look like Nicole Richie (I assume referring to how the once-kind-of-chubby-when-you-put-her-next-to-Paris-Hilton “celebrity” became rather emaciated looking for a while) — first, why was it okay for Adele to slam Nicole Richie and second, why put on a big show of “being on a vegetarian diet until the end of April”? I think us regular people all know how short term drastic diets lead to long term success, ummmm…oh, wait, they don’t. I’m not a fan of her music and don’t know a ton about her, but it is my understanding that she is an avid cigarette smoker and I find that more troubling in a 23 year old than her weight or her (obviously) photoslimmed magazing cover.

When I was in junior high back in the early 90’s, I was obsessed with supermodels/my weight. Not understanding that photos were not always “real” and that magazines often altered images, I didn’t realize that I was struggling to reach an unrealistic goal (even more unrealistic was wanting to be a 6′ supermodel when I was 5’5). I, like so many young girls and women, succumbed to eating disorders and spiraled out of control.
It’s unfortunate that we still obsess over these unrealizable goals and that magazines et al continue to disapprove of natural and real beauty.
    Great post!
